Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown has done a ton of dumb things in his era as the Bengals owner. The latest in a long line of stupid things Brown has done, would have to be his refusal to give into the demands of quarterback, Carson Palmer, who said he would retire before he plays another down in Cincinnati. Today the Bengal’s owner has finally
recognized that, in fact, saying “Carson Palmer has retired,” according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Brown issued his hardest statement yet on the matter during Tuesday’s pre training camp press conference at Paul Brown Stadium.
Said Brown: “I honesty like Carson Palmer. He was a splendid player for us. He is a good person. I wish him well and he has retired. That is his choice.”
“I’m not expecting him to be back. Carson signed a contract, he made a commitment. He gave us his word. We relied on his word and his commitment. We expected him to perform here. If he is going to walk away from his commitment we aren’t going to reward him for doing it.”
I’m not really sure what to think about this one. Normally, I would applaud the owner for not giving into a bratty player’s demands. However, given the past history of Brown, and the fact the Palmer seems like a good guy, I think Brown is really an idiot. Stubborn doesn’t begin to describe it. Palmer gave his heart and sole to the team for a long time and did all he could. You can’t blame him for wanting to go somewhere that at least has a chance to win.
